Where symbols are used

The Home

Carers, parents and other family members can use Widgit Symbols to enhance the learning and communication of children and adults whom they support. They can work alongside schools and other settings to develop consistent strategies for coping in the wider world.

Mother - "Symbols were used by home and at school from the age of 11 to 19, when he left school. At home, I found it invaluable in explaining to Andrew what we were doing, where we were going and, most importantly, how he should behave."

Mother - "I realised that in common with other ASD sufferers, Iain has very limited understanding of how he feels and, therefore, no prospect of controlling his own levels of anxiety. I produced some simple ‘Mood Indicator’ symbols and showed them to him at appropriate times to help him recognise and name his ‘feeling state’."
