Adult Dynamic Vocabulary (ADV)

The ADV grid set uses the Widgit Literacy Symbols (previously know as WidgitRebus). It consists of 1,000 grids with extensive use of pop-ups for a large vocabulary.

Most pre-stored vocabularies are aimed at the younger user. Older children and adults with language difficulties require a larger vocabulary.

The user may want to use standard computer software, but lack the spelling ability to enter text from a keyboard. ADV contains almost 5,000 words in the 1,000 grids.

Despite its size, the logical layout makes it easy to find words. A special feature of ADV is the Quick Talk grids (for instant phrases). These are created with a smaller number of cells so that they may be transferred to a small palmtop device (Pocket PC) for maximum portability

How to use these vocabularies

The vocabularies can be used with either The Grid, a powerful on-screen keyboard and AAC program with comprehensive switch input options, Pocket Grid, or Wordwall which offers writing support through word bars, word banks, prediction, symbols, speech and more.

Pocket Grid is Sensory Software’s communication software for portable devices using Windows CE. It allows you to use symbols or text to create sentences, and then read them back using either synthetic speech or pre-recorded speech. The coloured Widgit Symbols are ideal for this technology.

The grid

The Grid

The Grid is a very powerful communication tool for symbol and text users, with full switch access. The Grid is the easiest and most powerful assistive communication system available. It is four programs in one. Symbol communicator, on screen keyboard, writing support and grid overlay maker. Resources made in The Grid are entirely compatible with WordWall and vice-versa.

Wordwall

WordWall is a writing support tool for keyboard and mouse users of all ages. It includes extensive support for word finding, and includes a powerful word prediction engine. It works as an on-screen keyboard with standard applications, and is a logical step up from similar primary pograms with their own built in text editors.
