Widgit have an intensive programme of developing new symbols to meet current affairs and social topics.

Clearly, there are not symbols for every word that you are likely to find on the web. Widgit have a program of development. We receive automatic reports every day of the most frequently accessed words that do not have a symbol. From that we prepare symbol lists which are then added regularly to the system.

Not all words will have symbols. For example we omit symbols for the small non-information carrying words, such as ‘the’ ‘of’ ‘an’. This helps to reduce the visual clutter without reducing the information.
