Emailing between different languages
The Aldict Project (EU funded) is exploring the issues of e-mailing between symbols users in different countries who speak different languages. The project is taking place in England, France, Germany and Portugal. It involves the following partners:
France - U.N.A.P.E.I
England - MENCAP
Portugal - FERNACERCI
Germany - Lebenshilfe
Co-ordinated by Inclusion-Europe, Brussels
Not only will the Aldict software 'translate' between PCS and Rebus symbol sets so that users continue to work with their preferred graphics. It will also enable a level of translation between the written text that supports the symbols. This project will show the issues of communication between people with learning difficulties and communication with people whom they have never met. There are other projects using the same software which are exploring issues of symbol communication with pupils in schools and other contexts. The outcomes from all of these projects will inform us in ways we can continue to open doors for people with learning difficulties and disabilities.
