Merry Publications 'Life' Books

A series of reading books and workbooks from Kim Merry, on social topics for pupils with learning difficulties, including autism. These books are teaching aids for both the speech and language professional, schools and parents.

The reading books are mostly 20 page booklets with an illustration and a single line of symbolised text. Each book is supported with an activity book.
Activity Books are 40 page booklets with a range of activities:

• Recall of story using Symbol Story Cards
• Reading with just one symbol to summarise
• Matching and logic with sentence completion
• Vocabulary
• Matching words to symbols
• Some copying and spelling skills
• Odd one out activities
• Sorting Vocabulary

'Life Books' are also designed to increase the students' confidence and enjoyment of reading.

How to use the packs

Download it for use in Communicate: In Print 2, including all the additional graphics so that you can tailor the materials to suit your group and make your own materials.
You need 'Communicate: In Print 2' installed to able to use this resource

Download the packs as PDF Files. These do not require symbol software, but you will not be able to edit the activities.
You do not need any Widgit software to be able to use this resource

Printing the materials from Communicate: In Print 2

The Communicate: In Print 2 set of files are installed into the Communicate files/In Print Writing folder, in Widgit Resources.

As well as using the materials as supplied, they can be modified or adapted for individual needs, for example by adding or removing symbols to give the most appropriate level of individual support.

You can choose to print these activities in either colour or black and white.

Communicate: In Print gives you the option to print either as single sheets or as books ready to staple and fold. You can also choose to print double sided. You can print them in A4 or A5, and can choose to have the symbols in colour or black and white.

Printing the PDF Files

The PDF version of this pack cannot be configured for individual use, but do not require specific software, other than Acrobat Reader.

The A5 booklets need to be printed and then cut in half to make the small books. They have been paginated so that you can print them double sided. Alternatively sort the pages into numerical order before stapling.

These files can be printed directly from Acrobat Reader. You do not need any of the Widgit Products to access these files, but you will need to have Adobe Acrobat installed.
