Matching
This activity is designed to sit in with the single symbol books. The aim of the activity is to enable the learner to match the key symbols from each page with its appropriate word. When the learner clicks on a word, a sentence is read to them and written on the page so that they can understand which symbol to place next to the word.

Questions
This activity has audio questions for the learner to respond to. In the orange cells is a question about the topic. Once the learner clicks this cell the question is read to them, they have the opportunity to then answer the question with information provided in the other cells.

True or False
This is a true or false activity. The learner is presented with two sentences per grid, one of these is true and one is false. The learner then able to click on a sentence and mark with a tick or cross whether they believe that it is true or false.

Writing
There are two activites under the heading of writing, one with symbol supported text and one with plain text. In the activity the learner is presented with a grid containing all of the words from each page of the text level book. There is also a cell with the corresponding questions. Once the student has read the question they are able to write appropriate answers from the words int he grid.

The Communicate: SymWriter set of files are installed into the SymWriter environments folder. This includes any additional symbols or graphics that are used in the packs, which will be available for you to use in your own materials.

As well as using the materials as supplied, they can be modified or adapted for individual needs, for example by adding or removing symbols to give the most appropriate level of individual support.
These activities are designed to enable the learner to write independently and any work that is produced can be easily printed with black and white or colour symbol support.
