Question
Is it possible to get Writing with Symbols 2000 working on a MAC platform?
Solution
You will have to have a program called 'Virtual PC' installed on your machine.
For more information please visit the website http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/virtualpc/virtualpc.aspx?pid=virtualpc
What is Virtual PC?
Virtual PC is an emulation program that creates a separate Windows environment on the Mac desktop. Through some sophisticated software trickery, Virtual PC creates a 'virtual machine' that runs right on your Mac. The virtual machine is much like a real computer - you can install programs, such as Microsoft Access or Visio - all it lacks is actual hardware.
The virtual machine appears in its own window on your Mac and you can switch easily between programs on your virtual machine and programs on your Mac.
Virtual PC 7 runs best on faster computers with plenty of memory, including G5 Macs.
System requirements for Virtual PC for Mac Version 7
To use Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac Version 7, users need the following:
What operating systems can I run with on my virtual machine?
Virtual PC 7 comes with your choice of the following supported operating systems: Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Home Edition and Windows 2000 Professional.
Note: If you install an unsupported operating system, such as Windows 98, some features do not work. For example, Virtual Machine Additions cannot be installed on a virtual machine that is running on a non-supported operating system.
Installing WWS2000 on a Mac once Virtual PC has been installed
Once Virtual PC is installed onto your Mac, you will then have to copy these three files (from the WWS2000 CD) to the Virtual PC desktop.
When all three files have been copied over to the desktop, you will then need to run the setup.exe file from the desktop. Please make sure that you have the CD inserted in the drive before you do this.
You will be presented with the installation Wizard - this will guide you through the installation of the program.
