How to make Flash Cards

A really quick and easy way to create flashcards for individual children with picture
or line drawing as support.

These can be slipped into a word tin, wall display or used for constructing sentences
in a frame or book.

Look on the Widgit website for Avery labels grids to download.

Open up the Grids for Printing option

Choose the number of cells across and down that you want and also put in the measurements in mm. In this case we have chosen 2 cells across and 4 cells down with a measurement of 180 mm across with 260 mm down (this is the size of an A4 piece of paper)

Type in the words you wish to make into flash cards

To change the presentation of the grid, highlight the cells (ctrl and click in the first and last cell). You can then change the background colour from the Options menu, the font colour and the colour of the lines around the symbol from the formatting toolbar

The walls of the cells can be made thicker by using the icon or by choosing the options inthe Grids drop down menu

A really useful idea is to put the text on top of the words. Go to the options drop down menu and select Text on Top

There is an option to hide the text if it is just pictures that you want without the owrds underneath. This is on the Text drop down menu

Once you have completed your grid there is an option to clone the grid which can be found at the bottom of the Grids menu. This will enable you to have exact copies of your grid as a template for more flashcards

Now you have your flashcards, try laminating them or sticking them on card after you have cut them out. A Velcro dot on the back means that they can be stuck onto material or a strip of alternative Velcro stuck on the wall will allow the cards to be placed and replaced as needed. Use them to play games, to practice vocabulary or as labels
