What is symbolworld?

SymbolWorld is a FREE website dedicated to symbol users of all ages. It enables symbol users to access information independently which might not otherwise be available to them. Symbolworld contains a huge variety of articles, stories and information based around the following topics:

• eLive News
• Science                    
• Time And Place
• Lifestyle       
• Entertainment      
•  People                    
• Sport               
• Stories

Each of these topics is divided into subsections, for example Science  is subdivided into:

• Nature
• Technology 
• Health

In all, there are over 400 articles.  It is worth browsing through the site: there is something for everyone!

The site is updated weekly so there are always current news stories and new articles for you to look at.

Is the site easy to navigate?

Navigating the site couldn’t be easier. As well as refreshing the site’s content we have made it much more user-friendly.

The Navigation Panel at the side of the home page enables you to find what you want very quickly. Once you have found the page you are looking for, the navigation panel can be hidden by clicking on the button at the top of the page.

We have also introduced a Search facility on the navigation panel which will bring up a variety of pages relating to the word you type in.

A Latest Articles feature on the navigation menu allows you to access what’s new on the site if you are a regular user.

Customising the site to suit your needs

By pressing the Settings button at the top of the page, you can adjust:

• the size of text and symbols
• the colour of the text, including high contrast and dyslexia-friendly features
• the display, so that topics can be scrolled or viewed on separate pages.

Can I print from the site?

You can print articles with good pagination when you Register and Log-in. Registering will also enable you to star-rate articles for other users.

Why don't you become a contributor?

Most of the materials in these sections are sent in by symbol users, their parents or teachers.

Why don't you become a contributor? It can be very rewarding for students to to see their own ideas published on the web.

You can send material in any form. Things don't need to be perfect; we can tidy them up.
