Anglo-Saxons - Environments
Environments to support teaching and learning about this historical period
The Anglo-Saxons resource pack comprises a range of SymWriter 2 Environments that can be used to support the teaching and learning about this historical period.
Each area of study contains five activities which help the user to learn through symbolised information and speech functions. These activities have been specifically designed to support the whole teaching sequence, from the introduction through to recording the user's knowledge and understanding of the topic area.
Available in a symbolised format or text only format.
There are four areas of study:
- Anglo-Saxon Life
- Anglo-Saxon Invasions
- Anglo-Saxon Rich and Poor
These activities offer an overview of the Anglo-Saxon period, providing information and tasks based on the arrival of the tribes that formed the Anglo-Saxons in England as well as notable people, geographical details and feuds with the Vikings.
This range of environments covers the living arrangements, education and leisure activities of the Anglo-Saxons. It also mentions the relatively recent discovery of Anglo-Saxon burial mounds made in Sussex.
These activities offer an overview of the numerous invasions during the Anglo-Saxon period, providing information and tasks based on the original invasion of England by the Anglo-Saxons as well as battles with the Celts, feuds with the Vikings and the eventual successful invasion by the Normans.
Anglo-Saxon Rich and Poor
This range of environments covers the full scope of Anglo-Saxon society, from the slaves to the thanes, as well as law and order and equality.
