Solution

We have had to change the F12 key for a number of reasons. Communicate: In Print uses the F9 key, although you can also click on your choice because the symbols are displayed in the Symbol Choices window.

 

Click in a word (in either a text or symbol writing frame) to see the symbol choices displayed at the bottom of the Edit panel.

You can also turn off the symbol using the 'Hide symbol' button inside the symbol choices window
